-X- —Tliere will be 110 publication of The Chronicle on Saturday next (Easter Saturday), but it will be published as usual on Tuesday following 'Easter [Monday. The non-publication on Saturday next will be unavoidable. as two-thirds of The -Chronicle's staff go into camp to-day for their annual military training course. Levin Ladies' C'rcquet Club yesterday enjoyed a visit from representatives of Fox ton Ladies' Croquet Club. An enjoyable series of games was played, victory remaining with the Levin Club. The visitors were entertained at a dainty -afternoon' tea, to which the local bowlers also were invited. All in all 11 most pleasant afternoon was passed. .From tour thousand to five thousand tons of casein could be taken from iNew Zealand annually, but at present only some 400 tons per annum are available. These figures were given to the shareholders of Levin Co-opera-tivo 'Dairy Company, Limited, yesterday, bv Mr James Prouse in answer,to Mr Death, when foreshadowing the proposal for an addition of a. casein plant to the company's plant. The uses of casein are increasing in the world every day, and the former German monopoly in this article lias now passed into British hands. A lucrative price is at present obtainable for casein, and the indications are that the price will be on an ascending scale for some time to coine.

The lorry and the whole of a valuable load of furniture were destroyed by a fire occasioned by ignition of the benzine fuel used for driving the vchicle. The flames wcro so fierce that the solid rubber tyres on the lorrie were a'.most completely consumed. At the Catholic Church, Levin, there will be devotions at 3 o'clock on Good Friday, and the Sunday servicos will be held at 8 a.m., 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. At Oh an Institute on Easter Monday night a social gatheiing and dance will bo held. The institute oommittcc is about to insta] a "Wizard" benzine light in the hall, at a cost of between £20 and £30, and in order to raise funds for this expenditure the dance is being held. Prices of admission to the dance are 2i and Is. 'Supper will be provided. Gas-bill discounts for bills rendered this month will be allowed up to and including Thursday next, 12tli April. In tho ordinary course the last day would have been the '10th, but extra time will be allowed this month to meet tho eases of housekeepers away on l:oliday for the Easter season.

The communion service will he held at 11 a.m. and in the evening at 7.30 a meeting for intercession and prayer will be held. Prayers will be offered for the Empire and all. soldiers and sailors. An; invitation is extended to members of the Church, friends, visitors and all others to bo present. Special interest will attach to the dance items in the program to be ore. sented at the Town Hall on Wednesday next on the occasion of the off to the Levin men of the 28th Reinforcements. 'Miss Dorothy Saunders, a young Wellington teacher, a pupil of Madame Zeplin. ballet mistress to the Pollard Opera Company, and of M. Vestoff, member of the Imperial Russian Ballet and ballet master to the famous (ienee Company, will .eve interpretations of various phases of dancing. These will ranpe from the high art of the great .Russian masters to quaint extravagances of the London coster, while two of her own pupils (Miss Cork .and Miss. Dewsbury) will illustrate by graceful exercises and Russian folk dances the road by which proficiency in one of the most delightful of accomplishments is reached. Miss Sannder's teaching engagements prevents lier making many public appearances, but when she went to Hastings shortly after the inauguration of the patriotic entertainments there she received a most enthusiastic reception from nn immense audience in the Municipal Theatre and was recalled again and again. Owing to an error the price of admission to the "sendoff" was advertised as 2s and 'Is, but ns these gatherings have become very popular under the shilling admission it has been dccided to adhere to the ] same charge on this occasion.
