Jack London
Jack London j this popular novelist, died last December, at Glemallen, California, aged 40. The sketch of his life, contributed presumably by himself to "Who's Who" credits him with an almost incredibly long series of adventurous occupations. He was, it appears, at one time or another, a salmon fisher and oyster pirate, a schooner-sailor, fish patrolman, and a longshore man. He subsequently became a tramp, and- more than once slept in prison as one who had no fixed abode and no visible means of subsistence; and he is further reported to have lived the life of a vagabond in the east end of London. ''The Call of the Wild" made him famous. Other books of his almost equally well known are "The Sea Wolf," "White Fangs," "The Cruise of the Snark," '•South Sea Tales," and "The Abysmal Brute." Published .at a low price, they attained an enormous sale.
