Men at the Front.
THE Y.M.C.A. APPEAL
In a circular pamphlet lately published the Y.M.C.A. prints the following :—
Mr Varney, who is now in Prance, cables the following: "Discourage sending gift goods. Cable money. Can buy advantageously all needed and save money in transit. Developing work trenches. Have organization reaching every man forward lines. Push trench comfort fund."
Tliis is a direct message from a man whom we know intimately and 1 who is on the spot and who has seen for himself what is going on. If your respond immediately the money sent in will be on its way in the course of a few clays and every pound that you can raise is needed. 'Generous contributions have already been made for the : Y.M.O.A.' work, but after all when you are,- attending to the wants of many thousands of men, providing hutments and paying officials to superintend and carry out the work in connection therewith how far does a few thousand pounds go? The recent effort in connection with the Chrstmas gifts for the men in the trenches covers just little extra- cheer for that particular season, but we want to look after the men right through the winter for the next four or five most rigorous months that are just coming on.
