Cromwell v. Queenstown District High School

FOOTBALL AND BASKETBALL TEAMS

Cromwell basketball and football teams travelled to Queenstown last Tuesday, May 4, 1948. Owing to a shortage of players, a nine-a-side football match was played, resulting in a win for Cromwell 38—3, the scorers for Cromwell being R. Hodson (3 tries), M. Mitchell (2), L. Glassford (2), J. Mallett (1), Glassford converting five tries and Murray and'Hodson one each.

D. Boyd kicked a penalty goal for Queenstown. In the afternoon the teams, with the addition of other players, had a 15-a----side game, which resulted in a win for Boyd’s team 14 —13. The Cromwell nine-a-side team was C. Murray (captain), R. Glassford, J. Mallett, M. Mitchell, J. Toms, N. Wills, R. Hodson, G. Ritchie, and G. Stumbles.

In the morning the basketball team met Queenstown B team, Cromwell having a win 21—6. In the afternoon, playing Queenstown A and in a fast and interesting game, Cromwell once more were the victors, 13—6.

The Cromwell team was C. Moffat, .T. Basird, M. Ritchie, D. Toms, M. Brown, M. Sivann, S. Menzies, L. Trail, G. Cooper, D. King and G. Mitchell.

The teams were later treated to the usual high standard of Queenstown hospitality, and a very enjoyable day was spent by the Cromwell players.
