W.D.F.F. Celebrates 10th Birthday

The Queenstown branch of the W.D.F.F. celebrated its tenth birthday in the Parish Hall on Wednesday, April 28. There was a large attendance, including several members of the ArrowtoAvn branch, as rvell as friends of the organisation. The function Avas one of the most successful yet held. A number of amusing games interspersed with the musical programme added to the social side of the party. Miss Hamilton, president of • the branch, extended a Aveleome to - all present, and thanked the members for their co-operation in the activities of the branch for the past year. She said that it Avas proposed„Ao have a “ White Elephant ” stall in the town in connection with the United Nations appeal for food for hungry children in Europe. Mrs Lindsay and Mrs Hamilton extended congratulations on behalf of the Drummond and Arrow branches of the W.D.F.F. respectively. Mr G. H. Wardell spoke on behalf of the Wakatipu branch of the F.F., and Dr Anderson on behalf of the town.

Dr Anderson took the opportunity of speaking in support of the appeal of the United Nations for food for the starving children in Europe. Miss Hamilton made the following presentations:—'Decorative section, Miss B. Sutherland, Miss P. Hansen; handicraft, Mrs A. Munro. During the evening songs were given by Mrs Cowie and Messrs E. E. Hopwood, J. McDonald and I. Cowie, a vocal duet by Mrs I. Cowie and Miss Laing, instrumental duet, Misses J. Cockburn and D. Saunders, instrumental trio, Misses Bennett, recitation, Miss G. Hanton, and part-singing by the High School girls. A beautiful supper was served by members of the branch, and the function concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
