WANAKA
Australian Ex-servicemen Entertained
The members of the Australian Returned Services’ League arrived at the Hotel Wanaka with Mr R. Wilkie, of Dunedin R.S.A., as host. In the afternoon the party boarded the “ Muratai ” for a short trip round Ram Island. This trip was much enjoyed by the visitors, who expressed their admiration' of the lake’s impressive beauty. On the return journey a call was made at Glendhu Bay, where kowhai seeds were collected to be planted in Australia.
In the evening the Upper Clutha R.S.A. entertained the guests, while R.S.A. parties from Alexandra, Cromwell and Tarras were present. The usual toasts were honoured and items were rendered by Mr M. Burns, Mr W. Maxwell and Messrs C. and R. Trevathan. A feature of the evening was the splendid music supplied by Alexandra and Cromwell members.
The party was welcomed by Mr W. Manson, president, who, in welcoming the guests made reference to the purpose of the visits in keeping alive the comradeship and spirit of Anzac. Mr Morton replied on behalf of the visit-
in" pa rty. Members of the party remarked on the small attendance of the public at the Anzac services in Dunedin compared with similar gatherings in Australia. They considered the New Zealand ex-servicemen had wonderful opportunities for adjustment through the Rehabilitation Department. The party left for Cromwell on the Wednesday morning.
