OBITUARY
The death occurred on Thursday evening of Albert Verdune, youngest son of Mrs Nelly Johnston and the late Thomas Johnston, of Arrowtown. Although Albert had. been in ill-health for a number of years, his death came as a great shock to all his relations and friends.
He was born in Arrowtown 32 years ago and received his education at the Arrowtown School. He carried out the occupation of farm labourer at Outram and on local farms, and was also employed at the local store. During the war he was in the forces, being in the Invercargill camp, but was discharged from the army owing to illhealth. He was a keen follower of sports of all kinds and a regular attender of St. Paul’s Anglican Church.
The funeral which took place on Saturday, April 17, was attended by many relatives and friends.
Pall-bearers were three uncles of the
deceased, Edward;, Eriiest and David Thompson, two brothers, Percy and Charles, and a cousin, John Henderson. The service at the house and graveside was conducted by the Rev. Bianchi. Numerous floral tributes were placed on the grave from relatives and friends.
