“ Hungry Children Appeal” Arrowtown Meeting
There were 20 persons present at . the adjourned meeting for the Give a Day to the Hungry Children of Europe. The Mayor,]; Mr E. ; L. Thompson, who presided, gave an, outline of the objects; of the' appeal and entreated all to do their utmost for a very worthy cause/ Mr W. Hore, postmaster, was appointed secretary, and read lengthy correspondence from the dominion secretary, including suggested ways , and jnegns . of,, raising funds.
Mr W. H. Thompson, member for the Arrow Riding on the Lake County Council, apologised for the absence of Mr D. Rowe, assuring the Mayor of their willingness to assist and stating that the local committee would' have the support of the Lake County Council.
The following were elected a commit- . tee to operate within the same boundaries as those set out during the patriotic collection campaign;—Committee —The Mayor, chairman; Messrs W. H. Thompson, J. H. Douglas, G. Ogilvie, L. Stapp, E. J. Saunders, C. Walker, R. Scott, D. R. Rowe, T. Houston, Mesdames E. L. Thompson (Mayoress), Mrs I. B. Ritchie and Mrs D. Chalmers.
After discussion it was decided that collection be made by direct personal appeal (this method having proved so eminently successful during the patriotic appeals), and collectors for each subdistrict were appointed.
It was decided that another meeting be called after definite instructions had been received from headquarters, and the meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
