QUEENSTOWN Recent guests at the White Star Hotel, Queenstown include: —Mr and Mrs H. E. Priest (Johannesburg); Mr and Mrs B. Richardson, Mr and Mrs A. Lodge and Miss Lodge, Adelaide; Mr and Mrs J. Sterling, Sydney; Misses J. Hardy and M. Bartlett, Adelaide; Mr and Mrs W. A. B. Reid, Oxford, England; Misses A and L. Morgan, South Africa.

Mrs W. Beech, Trentham, is the guest of' her sister, Mrs D. Cosgrove, during the St. Joseph’s Church celebiations.

Mr D. H. Cockburn, chairman of the Lake County Council is at present on a tour of the North Island in connection with the Main Highways Board.

The Mayor of Queenstown, Dr W. A. Anderson and the Town Clerk, Mr Robertson are attending the Municipal Conference at Dunedin.

Mr W. G. Delton, president of the New Zealand Counties’ Association addressed a conference of members of the Southland, Wallace and Lake County Councils at Invercargill last Monday.

Crs W. A. McLean (deputy chairman), W. H. Thompson, D. R. Rowe and C. J. Cockburn also the County Clerk, Mr E. R. Hopwood and County Engineer, Mr H. A. Vezey attended the conference on behalf of the Lake County Council.

CROMWELL Mr W. Brown and Mr A. Brown are on holiday from the West Coast. Mr and Mrs George Clements are the guests of Mr and Mrs W. Hooper.

Mr and Mrs C. Manson arrived in Cromwell during the week-end to take up residence at Ripponwall.

Mr and Mrs Fred Highley left for Oamaru last Sunday morning.

ARROWTOWN Guests at the Royal Oak Hotel, Arrowtown at present include Miss Gertrude Ball, Exhibitor Royal Academy, London, and Miss Mabel M. Still, New Zealand Academy Art Mentor.

These ladies have been painting scenes in Arrowtown whilst the glorious autumn tints are prominent.
