QUEENSTOWN PROGRESS LEAGUE
Remit to Conference with South Island M.P/s Erection of Hostels A remit from the Queenstown Progress League was read to the conference. The league considered that in order to develop fully the tourist industry and alleviate the acute demand for accommodation in its principal South Island tourist resorts, the Government be urged to proceed immediately with the erection of new hostels —in particular at Queenstown. Mr Connolly said that the Government’s first consideration was for the community needs of New Zealand people. Housing and schools were priorities. “As far as the Government is concerned, I feel sure that this motion will be only part of a longrange policy,” Mr Connolly added. The motion was carried.
