Glenorchy Organisation To Ask Commission For Reduced Rates
That the Lake County Council plant, grader, bulldozer, etc., had not been in the Greenstone Riding for over two years, and that as the riding is isolated and has no access to other roads in the county, will be the basis of an appeal for reduced rates in the riding which the Glenorchy branch of Federated Farmers will place before the Royal Commission on sheep farming when .it visits the district. This information was received from the secretary in a letter received at the last meeting of the Lake County Council. The letter is to be acknowledged. King and Queen to Visit Queenstown? The Queenstown Borough Council decided at its monthly meeting, held last week, to ask the Prime Minister if Queenstown could be included in the King and Queen’s itinerary. Garrison Hall Not For Sale Owing to the fact that the Garrison Hall will be required for the post-war training programme, Army headquarters advised the Queenstown Borough Council that the hall could not be sold. They requested also, that necessary repairs to the hall be proceeded with as early as possible to avoid further deterioration. In the discussion which followed, the Mayor pointed out that the matter of repairs to the hall had been before the council since October and that they were required to undertake them in accordance with their lease. It was resolved that the matter be held over until the estimates were reviewed.
