Wakatipu Federated Farmers Meeting at Arrowtown
The annual meeting of the Wakatipu branch of the Federated Farmers was held at Arrowtown on Wednesday, March 31. There was a fair attendance, Mr D. Eowo presiding in the absence of the president, Mr W. P. Saunders. The result of the election of officebearers for the 1948-49 season is as follows: — President: Mr D. R. Rowe. Vice-presidents: Messrs D. G. Jardine and G. Warded!. Secretary: Mr E. J. Saunders. Committee: Messrs D. R. Rowe, D. G. Jardine, G. Wardell, C. R. Gordon and W. P. McDonald (one still to be added). Provincial Executive Representative: Mr D, R. Rowe. It was resolved to press for a continuous bus service between Lumsden and Queenstown and for the reinstatement of the Arrow-Queenstown night service. It was decided to protest to the Otago Central Power Board re the installation of power into holiday residences while permanent residents cannot be given power. The secretary reported that £209 12s 6d had been paid out of the Soldier Settlers’ Fund to 14 settlers and that two more settlers were to be paid when funds became available.
