Presbytery of Central Otago
The Central Otago Presbytery met in Alexanldra on Thursday, the Moderator, the Rev. J. O. Doig, presiding. Rt. Rev. J. D. Smith The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, the Rt. Rev. J. Douglas Smith, was welcomed to the meeting by Mr Doig, and addressed the Presbytery on the tasks that face the Church in future. He was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The visit of the Moderator and Mrs Smith was part of an itinerary through Central Otago. Communion Service The annual combined Presbytery and P.A. communion service was held in St. Enoch’s Church, conducted by the Rt. Rev. J. D. Smith, Mr Doig preaching the sermon. Bible Class Camp The Rev. G. Dallard, convener of the Presbytery’s Youth Committee, reported that a successful Bible class camp had been held in Alexandra over Easter, under the direction of the Rev. Dr West, of Dunedin. The subject of the studies was “ The Good News,” and picnics and sports gatherings had taken place in the afternoons. Ovearseas Visitors In connection with the recent visit of the Very Rev. Dr and Mrs Baillie and the Very Rev. W. Purves Boyes, a minute of appreciation to the Synod’s Centennial Committee for making the visit possible was passed by Presbytery. Presbytery Clerk The Rev. R. R. Walsh (Oturehua) tendered his resignation from the office of Presbytery clerk on account of illhealth. The resignation was accepted with regret. The Rev. R. S, Keenan (Ranfurly) was appointed to take his place. Committees Presbytery committees for the ensuing year were appointed, the conveners being: Life and Work, Rev. R. R. Welsh; Finance, Rev. D. D. Heggie; Youth, Rev. G. Dallard; Temperance, Rev. P, Anderson; Publicity, Rev. G. Dallard; P.S.S.A., Rev. D. D. Heggie; Missions, Rev. R. S. Keenan; Statistics, Rev. A. Willoughby; representative on District Committee, Rev. G. Dallard.
