Lake County A. and P. Ball

Tlio Lake County A. and P. Society’s Ball, held on Wednesday evening, March 17, in the Athemeum Hall, Arrowtown, proved the usual popular function, representatives of the district being present. Also present were the Hon. Mr E. Cullen, Minister of Agriculture, who was accompanied by his private secretary, Mr Steele, Miss Lucas and Mr G. Elliot, superintendent in Otago for the Department. Mr E. Thompson, Mayor of Arrowtown, welcomed and introduced Mr Cullen to the large gathering present. The Minister addressed the patrons, and in congratulating the committee and members upon their successful annual show, stressed the value of such organisations and said he realised the important work they ylid for the country. He urged the residents and others to keep up their support and thus enable the society to carry on the excellent standard that had been set. Mr Cullen also complimented the society for holding the show on St. Patrick’s Day. In presenting the cups, Mr Cullen congratulated all exhibitors, both prizewinners and others, stating that it was owing to their endeavour that a,successful show had been held. The president, Mr D. R. Eowe, thanked Mr Cullen for his kind remarks and also thanked his committee for their assistance and all those who had helped in the making of a successful show! He wished to mention also

those who did much work, but who did not come into prominence, and especially mentioned the women of the W.D.F.F. Cups were presented to:— i E. M. Paterson Cup for High Jump, Mr W. Jolly, Tarras. Cockburn Cup for most points in. sheep, Mr K. Haggitt. Yates Cup for most points in seeds section, Mr W. H. Thompson. Blumsky Cuip for most points in sundry section, Mrs W. H. Luddicoat. Anderson Cup for miner over flights, Mr D. O’Connell. Linton Man Cup, Mrs Betsy Ensor. After supper, dancing was resumed until the smalj hours. MdSTam)ara’s Gaiety Band supplied the music and Mr A. Eitchie was M.C.
