RIVERTON EASTER MEETING EXCELLENT FIELDS ENGAGED SIR GARNISH AND IRISH WIT FAVOURED

The first clay of the Riverton Easter meeting will be held on Saturday and as excellent acceptances have been received the sporting public should be favoured with a good day’s sport. The Great Western Steeplechase seems to be dominated by Irish Wit but a lot can happen in a race over three miles. The cup bears a very open appearance in which the chances of Sir Garnish, Benbecula, and Sea Power are most in demand. The track is reported to be in good order for this time of the year and if the weather keeps fine in the interim fast times should be recorded. The following horses should race well in their respective races: — 11.30: Trial Handicap. —Copper Rose, Red Money, Greyfel. 12.10; Waiau Steeplechase. —Double Light, First Out, San Quentin. 12.55: Aparima Handicap.—Sanskrit, Sterling Lad, Luminous Knight (if scratched Naughty Lady). 1.40: Longwood Handicap.-—String Band, Victory Star, Bonny Royal. 2.30: Riverton Cup.—Sir Garnish, Benbecula, Sea Power. 3.10: Great Western Steeplechase. — Irish Wit-Ballyaggan bracket, Tamerlane, Bravura. 3.55: Visitor’s Handicap.—Jimmy the One, The Grate, Faites vos Jeux. 4.45: Pourakino Handicap.—Sal’s Pal, Heroic Girl, Black Light. Place Prospect Tamerlane is reported to have given an excellent exhibition of jumping at Invercargill in a trial last week and looks a bright prospect for a place in the Great Western Steeplechase. He finished second to Page’s Raid in last year’s race. Early Win. Indicated The manner in which String Band finished into second place behind Jimmy the One at Birchwood seems to indicate an early win. String Band figures as an acceptor in the Longwood Handicap of seven furlongs at River ton.
