RAISING LAKE LEVEL Strong Objection by Local Councillor

“WILL RUIN WANAKA”

Arising from the minutes of the last meeting of the Lake County Council, where it was recorded that the manager of the State HydroElectric Department, had informed the chairman of their proposal to raise the level of Lake Wanaka, Cr. Aubrey spoke in no uncertain terms on the subject. Mr Cockburn said that he had been informed that it was proposed to raise the lake level 10 to 12 feet, and at the most 15 feet.

Apart from it flooding large tracts of land in the townsnip, said Cr. Aubrey, there was another fact to consider. When they found it necessary to drain the lake that 15 feet, it would leave a large mud flat. “ it would ruin Wanaka,” he said. He urged the council to support any objection the townspeople might put forward, and one would certainly be forthcoming, he added. “ GET STARTED ON ARDMORE STREET ” “ Why not go ahead with the top section of Ardmore street,” he saiu. “It is a disgrace to the town.” Mr Cockburn pointed out that they Wanaka Branch W.D.F.F.
