OUNCIL MEETS QUEENSTOWN
SPORTS BODIES
With a view to learning fully the requirements of local sports bodies who use the new sports ground at Queenstown, the Borough Council met their representatives last week. The Deputy Mayor, Mr D. W. Thompson, presided.

The Council did not wish to spend too much in erecting buildings in view of their application to the Internal Affairs Department for a subsidy on the proposed war memorial now being reviewed. Fire Plugs Needed for Demonstrations Mr J. F. Spencer made a strong plea on behalf of the Queenstown Voluntary Fire Brigade to have the Council place pvo (ire pings behind the 'goal posts at the Camp street end of the ground. He said that 'the United Fire Brigade's had been anxious to hold demonstrations and conferences at Queenstown for some time now but there was no place suitable within the town to hold them. Practising on the streets was ruining the hoses. After, elaborating on these points tjie chairman ’ interjected, saying: ” We will see what can he done.” Mr Spencer pressed his point further, and the chairman said: “I promise you we will do our best. We will go into the cost of it.” When the meeting concluded, councillors and representatives agreed that such meetings were a good way to solve problems, and it was hoped that if further problems arose that they would he discussed in this manner.
