Fronr the Files of the Wakatip Mail At a public meeting of April 27, 1868, it was unanimously resolved that a library and reading room be established in Queenstown, and that an entrance fee of 10s be paid by every new member, and £1 Is per year. Thirty-four persons agreed to become members. The steamer “ Expert,” owned by Mr Howarth, has sunk at her moorings at Half-Way Bay. The cause is not stated. MARCH, 1868: At a public meeting held on March 6, 1868, it was resolved that the rate assessment was too high and most oppressive to the inhabitants, and should be reduced in every case to less than one half.
