J. Ellis has been engaged to ride Indian Dawn in the Cup. This horse always runs good races at Wingatui. Wellington Cup Winner Spare. Part, who it will be remembered scored such an easy win in the Wellington Cup, has been kept up to his work during the past week and it will not be on account of lack of racing condition if he fails to give a good account of himself in the Cup to-mor row. He is in the same stable as Sir Garnish.
Champion Pacer Emulous, by winning the Grand Final of the Interdominion Championships at Auckland on Saturday, proved himself to be one of the best, if not the best pacer ever to have raced in New Zealand. Three-year-olds There are only two throe-year-olds engaged in the Centennial Cup tomorrow, Kartikeya and Sea Flower and the former may give a good account of herself over the mile and threequarter journey. Royal Tan If the course happens to be softened by rain to-morrow, Royal Tan’s chance in the Cup would be enhanced. Bemicia Handicap The Bernicia Handicap for two-year-olds to be run over five furlongs bears a very open appearance and the winner might come from the four top-weights —Card Money, Baygundie, The Hob and Finigin. Birchwood Hunt Nominations for the Birchwood Hunt meeting to be held on March 13, which were due on February 24, are not now due until February 27. Sale of Bloodstock On Friday, February 27, there will be a sale of bloodstock at the Wingatui racecourse. The catalogue includes yearlings, two-year-olds, untried stock, brood mares and horses in training. Signal Officer Signal Officer, the conqueror of Beau le Havre at weight for age, is reported to be in good racing shape and, with C. T. Wilson in the saddle, he should beat more than will beat him in the Centennial Cup. Cromwell Centennial Meeting Acceptances for the racing events and withdrawals for the trotting races on the first day of the Cromwell club’s programme close at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2.
