Froir the Files of the Wakatip Mail OCTOBER, 1867. The attention of our readers has been called upon on more occasions than one recently to the necessity of opening a pack-track to the head of the lake. We shall be glad to see the council take up this subject warmly, and upon the principle, better late than never, we hope they will be successful in obtaining such a track. It is considered a matter of honour that the sums voted by the Government on Goldfields should be expended if judicious opportunities permit. His Honour, the Superintendent, who visited the district, said the requirement should bo attended to. The council received a letter from the superintendent stating that the Government is prepared to supplement local effort to the extent of £4OO, towards the road. The Government would also call tenders for a bridge over the Shotover.
