QUEENSTOWN BOROUGH COUNCIL

The final meeting of the council was held at the end of December. It was attended by the mayor, Dr W. A. Anderson. and Crs D. W. Thompson, F. J. Gavin. R. Robins, C. A. Inglis, J. L. Lindsay, and W. Xelson. The Frankton Aerodrome Board asked the council to appoint a representative in place of Mr H. Sew Hoy, assigned. Or D. W. Thompson was elected. In response to a request from the Arrow Borough Council, it was decided to approve of a recommendation to he placed before the Minister of Works, Mr R. Semple, that the State highway ho put through Arrowtown instead of by Baird’s Hill. The mayor and Cr Lindsay were appointed to join the deputation to the Minister. The local officer of the Tourist Department wrote that he had recommended the expenditure of £ii on clearing Queenstown Hill track. The matter was referred to 'Cr Thompson. J. Pollock, Royal Cafe, was granted a licence to hold dances during the next 12 months, subject to certain conditions. He was also permitted'to place notices on the camping ground. Cr Lindsay gave a report on the business transacted at the South Island Local Bodies’ Association. for which lie was thanked. The town clerk was appointed dogregistrar for the borough. The Mayor reported that owing to the dry weather water restrictions had to he imposed. It had been agreed to give four hours watering per week for each property-owner at various times in the week. After some consideration it was resolved to increase the wateringtime to six hours.

• Accounts amounting to £2(15 13s Id were passed for payment. At the conclusion of the ineetin" the Mayor extended the season’s greetings to councillors, the staff and their wives and the press. Cr Lindsay thanked the mayor for his good wishes, and he thanked his worship and Mrs Anderson for entertaining the councillors, the staff and their wives at dinner at the Royal Ca f e.
