MENTS

Eighteen rinks participated in a oneday chib benefit tournament on Tuesday, January fi. The weather was very warm. Three rinks, skipped by R. S. Brown (Kaituna), A. Melville (Waihopai), and S. Preeec (Gore), won their four games, and in the play-off Prceee took first prize, Melville second, and Brown third. Prior to the commencement of play, Mr W. .Mclnnes, secretary of the Wakatipu Club, explained that the club was in need of funds for travelling expenses and he thanked the visitors for putting on the tourney. Following on the latter’s remarks, Mr Fred Meek made monetary presentations to the greenkeepers for their efforts in keeping the greens in excellent order for play. During the progress of the holiday gapies presentations were ‘also made to Messrs J. Nisbet and E. V, Scandrett for organising the tournaments. Details of games, skips names only mentioned: —R. S. Brown (Kaituna), 4 wins; C. Carter (Winton), 2 losses. 2 draws; R. Gemmell (North-East Valley), 1 win, 2 losses, 1 draw; W. Hogg. 1 win, 2 losses, 1 draw; H. Lee (Invercargill), 3 wins, 1 loss; W. F. Meek (Balmacewen), 3 wins, 1 loss; A. Melville (Caversham), 4 wins; P. C. Mills (Waihopai), 1 win, 3 losses; A. McLaren (Caledonian), 3 wins, 1 draw; S. Preeee (Gore), 4 wins; P. J. Rendell (St. Clair), 4 losses; J. A. Sligo (West End, Timaru), 2 wins, 2 losses; H. H. Stubbs (Caversham), 3 wins, 1 loss; W. Stewart (Invercargill), 3 losses, 1 draw; F. Taylor (Kaituna), 1 win, 3 losses; H. Walker (Dunedin), 1 win, 2 losses, 1 draw; D. J. Wesney (North-end, Invercargill), 1 win, 3 losses; W. H. Whitaker, 1 win, 3 losses.

F. W. Bailey, the only skip with three over was awarded first prize in a progressive tournament held at Queenstown last Saturday. Three leads, F. Martin, W. Elliott and .H. Johnston, each had three over, but Martin took first prize by having the highest aggregate points. Twenty-six pairs competed in the tournament held in brilliant sunshine, but'the green was a little heavy after the rain .on Friday.
