FIRE CALLS
Owing to the hot spell of weather over the New Year period conditions became very dry about Cromwell. Unirrigated sections covered with dry grass became potential fire-menaces. The local fire brigade was called out twice to extinguish grass-fires. After extinguishing the second they returned to 'the section behind the Victoria Hotel to burn the grass off in that area.
