OBITUARY

A link with the early settlement of the district in the person of Mrs H. Mackenzie (nee Flora Gardiner) was severed when she passed away on Wednesday last. The second eldest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs James Gardiner, formerly of Wedderburn, Victoria, Mrs Mackenzie came to New Zealand with her parents in the sixties. They settled in Invercargill at first, then Nokomai and eventually came to Queenstown. For some years the deceased and her late sister, Miss Agnes Gardiner conducted a boarding establishment in Rossford House. The deceased married the late Mr Hugh Mackenzie, Walter Peak about •10 years ago. Mrs Mackenzie had been in ill health for some months past. The late Mrs Mackenzie was one of the stalwarts of St. Andrew’s Church for all through her life she engaged in one or more of its activities and she refrained her personal interest till the end. Of a kindly disposition Mrs Mackenzie was known for her benefactions to many a worthy cause. She is survived by her brother, Mr J. W. Gardiner. The funeral took place on Thursday, the remains being interred in the Queenstown cemetery# The Rev. P. Anderson conducted the service at St. Andrew’s Church and at the graveside.
