QUEENSTOWN GLEE CLUB

o SOCIAL EVENING HELD A most successful and pleasant social evening marked the conclusion of the club’s activities for the present year when members met at the Ambassador’s Cafe on Tuesday last. The members of the club excelled themselves in the presentation of a few chosen partsongs and a Christmas Carol. “ The object in holding the function was not to perforin the polished results of weeks of strenuous training” stated Mr Forbes, chairman of the club, in his welcome to friends, but rather to entertain them with a rehearsal of the music which had been undertaken in the few weeks of the club’s existence. The idea of creating practical interest was another aspect which had not been overlooked in arranging the evening. The chairman referred to the work done by Mr Jas. McDonald in bringing about the formation of the club and to Mrs McDonald who had given freely of her talents as accompanist, ’to Miss 0. Christie in her work as secretary of the club and to Mr E. R. Hopwood (conductor). The items included two, three and four-part arrangements of many wellknown melodies which were enthusiastically received by the listeners. At the conclusion Mr B. A. Vercoe, on behalf of the visiting friends, thanked the club for its splendid programme after which supper was served.
