From the Files of the Wakatip Mail May, 1867: The partnership hitherto existing between William Gilbert Rees and Albert Eiehardt was dissolved by mutual consent on April 23. —Advt. One of the cleanest cakes of gold brought into Queenstown was to be seen at the Bank of Otago. It was the product of the Scandinavian Company’s Reef. The weight was 3210z, taken from about 200 tons of stone. The establishment of the Post Office Savings Bank in Queenstown has been very successful, about £2OO having been lodged last month by numerous depositors, including children and adultes, in sums from £1 to £5 or £lO. June, 1867: The young man, William Sleeman, charged at the Supreme Court with attempting to poison himself at Queenstown, was admonished in a reasonable manner by his Honor, Mr. Justice Chapman, and then, liberated, after being bound over in his own recognizances for his good behaviour in future. Advt. in the Mail of 26/6/1867: “ The Union Bank, having retired from Queenstown and Arrow in favour of the Bank of New Zealand, all current accounts have been transferred to that institution. G. M. Ross, Manager.”
