SCHOOL COMMITTEE
The monthly meeting of the Arrowtown School Committee was held in the schoolroom on Tuesday of last week. Those present were Mr G. Ogilvie (acting chairman), Messrs W. Given, B. Fletcher, and Mrs Ritchie, lion, secretary. The Education Board advised that one tender had been submitted for the erection of the new residence, but the price was considered too high. It was resolved that the board be advised that the committee’s previous application for a concrete brick dwelling was favoured, and suggested that fresh tenders be submitted in concrete. The board was advised that as the school would maintain grade 4a for 1948 it proposed to transfer Mr C. R. Walker to another position, and the vacant head teachership in the school would be advertised. A complaint was received from a parent asking the reason for the abolition of the plain and fancy dress dance at the break-up function. It was decided to advise the writer that the committee intended to hold an entertainment for the break-up, bht after consideration it was decided to hold a school concert in the early part of next year. As the chairman, Mr Elliot, had been indisposed for some months, it was decided to write extending seasonal greetings and the best wishes for a speedy recovery. Mr Ogilvie thanked the teachers and the members of the committee for their co-operation during the year, and should Mr Walker be transferred in the meantime he expressed the good wishes of his committe. Seasonal greetings were exchanged. Mr Walker suitably replied.
