QUEENSTOWN ROTARY CLUB MEETING

The speaker at the weekly meeting of the Queenstown Rotary Club was Rotarian E. R. Hopwood. “ Civic Education,” the subject of his address, was, on the eve of the local body elections, very timely and instructive to those seeking the votes of the electors. The speaker laid stress on the importance of citizenship in any community and deprecated apathy in civic affairs or the “ take-for-granted attitude ” of some people. Ratepayers could do much in constructive criticism of the business of local bodies, he said, which should be helpful to those who were responsible for the town or the district’s welfare. Rotarian Hopwood also gave helpful advice on the taking of polls on loans or major undertakings. Governor Charles Greenslade’s letter to clubs put Queenstown on a high plane in respect of its activities. Visiting Rotarians present were—N. Armour, Alan Pryor, and D. J. Wesney. Other visitors were Messrs W. Elliott, A. Curtis and M. T. Robertson.
