Wanaka Town Planning Scheme Now Progressing
Basic plans and schedules for the Wauaka town planning scheme have now been completed hy the technical committee appointed for the work and a report has no.w been submitted to the Lake County Council. The work has entailed the preparation of a considerable number of basic and feature maps and reports together with statistical figures. All the preparatory data is necessary before a beginning can be made in the actual planning of the area, ' It is hoped that an early beginning will be made on this, but no real progress is anticipated before early in l!) 48, although the housing plan has already been prepared by the committee. When the final plan is completed it will be to the Town Planning Board for approval, after provisional approval by the Lake County Council. The scheme will then be notified publicly and all occupiers of rateable property will have the,'right of objection. Any objection has to be lodged with the Lake County Council within three months and will in turn be considered by the Town Planning Board whose decision is final. The planning scheme should provide for all sections of the community, including tourists,' with amenities and service for a long-term period. As this is the first potential tourist centre to be really planned the scheme should prove of general interest.
