Beautifying Society Seeks Assistance of Property Owners
Because of the beautification schemes being carried out in Queenstown all property owners are to be requested by the Queenstown Beautifying Society to clear broom or other noxious growth off the street-line opposite, their holdings. This was decided at a meeting of the society held in the town clerk’s office on Monday of last week. Those present were Mr L. C. N. Wilder (president), Messrs D. W. Thompson, L. Evans, J. Keen, M. T. Robertson, J. McDonald, G. Buxton, and W. D. Warren. In order to ensure that entries will be forthcoming from property owners who are either improving their street fronts or cultivating their gardens, it was decided to make further contact with them outlining the competitions. It was decided to employ labour for trimming certain ornamental trees in the town, with the concurrence of the borough council. The secretary was instructed to write to Mr J. (Houston or other experienced visiting gardeners asking if they are prepared to judge the gardens of persons who enter the competitions. The secretary was also asked to write and thank Mr J. Campbell for his generous offer of polyanthus plants for distribution to interested parties.
