WEDDING

Cowie-Laing Apple blossoms and Arum Lillies made a pretty setting in St. Pauls Presbyterian Church, Oamaru, on the morning of Saturday, October 11, for the wedding of Jean, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Willian Laing, of Oamaru, and lan Derrick, youngest son of Mrs E. J. Cowie and the late Mr Cowio, of Arrowtown. The bride, who entered the church on tlie arm of her father, was gracefully gowned in a frock of white organdie skirt, white silk crepe top, with yoke and tight fitting sleeves trimmed with silver beads. Her white tulle veil fell from a coronet of silver beads and she carried a bouquet of white Arum lilies and Maidenhair fern. The two bridesmaids, Betty and Doris Laing, sisters of the bride, wore ground length frocks of pale green organdie skirts with green floral taffetta tops with three-quarter sleeves, cut on the same lines as the bride. Pink and green tulle and organdie hats adorned with lace flowers. Each maid carried a bouquet of tulips and sweet peas in pink and purples with lavender ribbons. Mr William Laing, brother of the bride, was the best man and Mr Neil Coles was groomsman, both of Oamaru, Guests numbering 50 and including visitors from Petono, Invercargill and Central Otago, were received after the wedding by Mr and Mrs Laing and Mrs Cowie, at the “ Star and Garter n tearooms where the reception was held. Pride of the place at the breakfast table was the magnificent three tier cake made bv the grooms sister-in-law, Mrs J. R. Cowie. For travelling the bride wore brown corduroy velvet suit, pink lace blouse with hat of the same toning, white coat and accessories to match. The bride and bridegroom left for the north and their future home will be Arrowtown. The Rev. Mr Marshall was the officiating minister.
