Hawea W.D.F.F. Celebrates 17th Birthday With Successful Dance

The Hawea branch of the W.D.F.F. celebrated its seventeenth birthday in the Hawea Hall last Friday evening, when a dance was held. The visitors were welcomed by Miss Jopp, president of the branch, and apologies for absence were received from Bannockburn, Clyde and Tarras. The members of the official party were each presented with a spray of flowers, which had been made by Mrs A. Allison. During the evening Mr and Mrs A. Murphy, winners of the Otago Central waltzing championship, gave an exhibition waltz. The hall and supper tables had been beautifully decorated for the birthday party, and a sumptuous supper was served. The candles on the birthday cake were it by Mrs Manson, president of the Wanaka branch, and were blown out by Mrs Deveraux, president of the Luggate branch. The cake was cut by Mrs J. Kane, Hawea vice-president. Over £l3 rvas raised for “ Food for Britain.” The music for the dance was supplied by McNamara’s Band, Cromwell.
