POSTAL STAFF FAREWELL

Popular Officer Transferred Members of the Post Office staff met last Thursday afternoon to bid farewell to Mr W. J. Hore prior to his departure for Arrowtown. In presenting the guest of honour with a coffee table the Postmaster, Mr W. Smith, mentioned the sterling qualities possessed by Mr Hore, whose high standard of efficiency and pleasant personality would be a distinct loss not only to the offijee but ,to the public of Queenstown generally. Mr Smith congratulated Mr Hore on his appointment as Postmaster at Arrowtown, and on behalf of his fellow officers, wished him and his family every success and happiness in their new sphere. Messrs H. D. Walker and D. Gray also spoke eulogistieally of Mr Hore, who in reply mentioned the happy time he had spent in Queenstown, and expressed his regret that the time had arrived for him to move on. Mr Hore left Queenstown last week to take up his new position at Arrowtown.

“ What’s the charge against this man, officer?” the magistrate asked. The constable consulted his note hook and prepared to make his speech. “ Vagrancy, your honor,” he replied. “He was observed to be loafing at a street, corner all the afternoon.” The magistrate nodded. “ I see,” he replied. “ Impersonating a policeman. Five shillings fine.”
