VISITING SPORTS TEAMS
Win for Cromwell
Cromwell basketball and football teams had a win against Queenstown High School teams when they visited Queenstown last Wednesday. Twice before the matches were postponed because of bad weather but on Wednesday clear skies and bright sunshine prevailed. In the morning, basketball was played in the Park, Cromwell winning by 23 points to 13. The visitors showed superiority mainly in the centre, their passing and positional play being of very high standard. For Queenstown Marion Anderson played well in the centre, her game being tjuick and accurate. Linloy Davies also played a good game as shoot. Cromwell also won the football by 28 points to 8. Although the Queenstown boys were under age and weight, they played a very good game. Bill McDonald scoring two tries with David Boyd converting one. David Boyd and Bill McDonald in the backs, and Bob Swann in the forwards were Queenstown’s best players. A number of small players from the primary school stood up well to their heavier opponents. Mr L. Hanrahan was the referee. Morning and afternoon tea was provided for the visitors by the pupils of the local high schools, who also billeted their guests for lunch. Following afternoon. tea the captains of the respective teams spoke on behalf of their teams after which the Cromwell pupils returned home.
