SHEEP STEALING.
At last week’s conference of the meat and wool section of Federated Farmers, alarm was expressed at the incidence of sheep-stealing in New Zealand to-day. It was becoming an increasingly serious problem, delegates said, and it was decided to ask the Government to offer substantial rewards for information leading to the conviction of offenders. It was also considered that the penalty imposed on persons convicted of stock thefts was insufficient. The Government will also be asked to make such penalties more severe.
