PROGRESSIVE LEAGUE
Waterfront Improvements Mr J. McDonald presided over the monthly meeting of committee members of the League at a meeting held on Wednesday, July 9. Messrs McDonald and Robertson, the sub-committee set up at the previous meeting to interview the Queenstown I Borough Council on the question of improvements to the waterfront reported that they had interviewed a council representative who was very impressed with the suggested scheme and it was resolved to submit a copy of this programme of works to the Borough Council for its perusal. Ice Skating After considerable discussion on this matter it was decided to interview the Wakatipu Skating Club with the idea of co-operating in arranging for a series of ice carnivals and competitions. It was felt that the time was opportune to make such arrangements and have everything in readiness so that conducted tours could be catered for and also give local enthusiasts every encouragement. A letter was ‘received from the resilient engineer, Public Works Department, Invercargill, with reference to the tar-sealing of the State highway between Invercargill and QuoenstoAvn advising that tenders were being called for a small section of this highway antj that plans had been adopted for future undertakings during the years 1948-49. —The letter was received. Thq president advised/members that he had interviewed the A.A. Otago regarding pamphlets they were having printed of the district and he was pleased to state that the association had willingly agreed to make available to the League an unlimited supply of these folders at cost price. It was resolved to hold the annual ' meeting of the League on Wednesday, July 23.
