ARROWTOWN CONCERT
The Arrowtown Entertainers held a variety concert on Friday, June 20 in the Athenseum Hall. The attendance was fair considering the weather conditions.
The concert opened with a pianoforte solo by Mrs D. R. Rowe, following this the stage presented a very pretty setting for the Tableau “ Rendezvous.” The old world garden, with its archway and trellises of climbing roses, formed a beautiful background as the shepherd, dressed in white satin (Miss Owen Thompson), and the shepherdess, in a rose taffeta crinoline (Miss Ellie Saunders), danced the old gavot in the moonlight. The cupid (Little Lois Ogilvie), with her fairy-like wings, the fountain and the nightingale, completed the setting, and the gardener (Mr Ritchie), on the brought this charming scene to a close. Mrs J. M. Hansen was the soloist. The two recitations given by Miss Gwen Hanton were much appreciated. The other plays, “Calamity”,- (Mrs Ogilvie, Messrs W. Martin and P. Stapp)-; The “ Scarecrow ” (Mrs McLean, Miss Pearl Thompson and Messrs E. B. Taylor and V. Hansen); “Ladies in Waiting ” (Mesdames R. Paterson, J. H. Douglas, G. P. Ogilvie, J. Hansen and J. B. Summers, Misses L. E. Terry and G. Hanton); “Alexandra the Great ” (Messrs E. Thompson and A. Ritchie, A, Gibson and L. Terry), all were well produced and played. Mr G. Ogilvie, rendering two solos, was well received.
A chorus by the company as a grand finale, brought to a close an excellent evenings entertainment which was enjoyed by all. The accompanists were Mesdames Rowe and Given.
