SKI GROUNDS
Extensive Road Improvements
Advice has been received that the Internal Affairs Department has approved of a considerable grant in making an allweather road from the junction of the Queenstown-Arrowtown main highway turn-off, to the ski club hut, a distance of approximately three miles. It is anticipated that the work will be completed by the commencement of the skiing season. The Mount Cook and Southern Lakes Tourist Company have acquired the services of a bulldozer in making a broad track into the ski ground proper, at the end of which a ski tow will l>e erected, proclaimed to be the first of its kind in New Zealand. This tow will enable ski-ing enthusiasts to ascend to fields which have been in the past practically inaccessible to the novice. An additional hut has also been erected where skis and equipment may be repaired when necessary, also a limited number of skis may be hired, with an expert ski member in attendance during the season. The Wakatipu Ski Club have erected a wide verandah on to their building, with a view to giving greater seating accommodation and extra convenience for serving tea.
