TABLE TENNIS

Queenstown Club

Table tennis is going ahead with a swing this season and the club has a large membership of lady and men players.. The club has four tables in use and a fifth will be available in the near future.

Some very interesting - games Lave been played and it is noticed that many players have made considerable progress since last season. Ladder matches have started and the following are the results of games played • last Tuesday . 3 * evening: — Mrs W. Smith defeated Miss Mackenzie 21 —4, 21 —15; Mr N. Christopher defeated Mr G. Nelson 17 —21, 21—18, 24—22; Mrs G. Nelson defeated Mr L. Inder 21—19, 17—21, 24—22; Mr T. Donaldson defeated Mr A. Curtis 21 7, 21—17.

The club extends many thanks to Mr and Mrs J. McDonald for their assistance in the arranging of supper on playing nights. To Miss Betty Summers we extend our very deep sympathy in the loss of her mother. Best wishes to Jack Adams who is on the sick list. A speedy recovery Jack.

Guide to Fortune. An investment house in New York offers for sale lists of “Prospects” for salesmen of stock. For £3 a thousand you ean get names of wealthy, widows with at least £fi,ooo. For £5 a thousand you' can get names of millionaires with children under fifteen. The lists are of names not found in any directory.

Wet and Fishy. This fishing story is vouched for by O. J. Leighton, who used to conduct an “Anglers’ Guide” session on the Sydney radio. A fisherman caught a grey nurse which is a type of large shark. When it was hoisted aboard a considerable bulge was noticed in its stomach. It was found to be caused by a crate containing eight unbroken bottles of beer.

Story from U.S.A,

It is estimated that 900 million dol-

lars is spent by Americans every year for the dry cleaning and pressing of clothes. Moreover —horrible though! —15,000 tons of soil are removed from the garments. That’s a pretty dirty story!
