CORRESPONDENCE

The Editor will be pleased to -accept for publication letters under -this heading. It should be clearly understood that the views expressed are not necessarily those of this paper.

SHr, —Through your columns I would like to express some comment upon the “football match played at Arrowtown he--twcen Country and Arrow. To say that I was disgusted is putting it mildly. Apart from the general run of the play being of a poor standard, 'the behaviour of some players was •shocking. I saw the referee warning

players about talking and disagreeing with his decisions by players who should know better than to behave in such a. manner. I do not profess to

have a great knowledge of the presentday rules, but it was quite obvious that some of the players showed what they d d not know. Later in the game the referee ordered one player off, a duty which I would have performed much earlier in the game.

I played football many years ago, and go to ippst matches in the district, and I am sure that what the game wants is firm referees to deal with rough play and the questioning of referees’ decisions. The referee at this match was as good a referee as I have seen in my time, and a fairer man no team -could wish to have. How he put tip with as much as he did I do not know. What I would like to ask the players is—“ Do you think you set a good example to the school boys who saw the game? ” My advice to the players is—play the game and never question the referee’s decision. Unless players do that our good old game is ruined once and for all.—l am, etc.., Old Player,.
