RUGBY FOOTBALL
The Wakatipu representative team which travelled to Invercargill on the King’s Birthday to play at the Country Day fixture was defeated by Central Districts by 25 points to 3, the Wakatipu points being made up by a try by (r. Nelson, who was playing at fullback. after a kick through and fast fol-lowing-up work. The Central team averaged a stone heavier than the Wakatipu pack and had the advantage of securing the biggest percentage of the ball from the scrums. Mr C. M. Inglis was manager of the team.
Local Practice The Queenstown Club, having a bye on Saturday last, a practice game was held on the new sports’ area and afforded those who have not made the grade so far in flag matches to demonstrate their ability. The selector of the Queenstown team no doubt had his eye on the play of one or two of the younger Queenstown forwards who have not yet received a game in the team. Also the schoolboys bad their run and it is good to see the encouragement and advice that Mr Hanrahan is handing out to these boys.
The ground, after having the 10-ton steam roller on it, was in excellent condition, and should be the envy of Otago Central sportsmen, with its natural grandstand when it is finally laid off.
