ARRIVAL OF NEW SPEED LAUNCH

The arrival from Kingston late on Saturday afternoon of the new 2(>ft water taxi. Meteor, was eagerly watched from the wharves by a large mimhei of townspeople. Approaching the landing, a demonstration was given of tinwater taxi’s ability and several people were subsequently privileged to have a run in her. The Meteor was designed hv Mr A. J. Collings, Auckland, and built by Miller and Tuunage. Port Chalmers, for Mr d. H. Stone, who will use her on the lake. Powered by a h.p. Kcrnmth marine engine, the Meteor is expected to make 2d miles per hour with a normal complement of passengers and driver. The new launch is built of kauri, double-skinned, the timber being placed diagonally, thus making for strength. She has red topsides, a dark blue deck and chromium-plated hardware. thus giving her a very smart appearance. Mr Stone deserves well of his enterprise.
