STRAY STOCK NUISANCE
[10 THE EDITOR.]
SIR, —Would you kindly allow me space to complain, with others, of the stray cattle and horse nuisance. Cattle and horses make their appearance near\y evening on some of the by-streets, much to the annoyance of residents with small gardens, etc., where valuable little plots of vegetables are continually menaced by these animals breaking through the fences. Some time ago our Town Board made a feeble attempt to remedy this evil, but the bold (or bogus) effort then made to protect the ratepayer ended in a farce, and its failure encourages owners to meanly turn their stock on to the roads, regardless of what damage may be done to their neighbours. No one would object provided they were kept under proper control to prevent them destroying in an hour the result of months of patient industry, in an endeavour to provide a healthy stock of vegetables and assist in keeping down cost of living-—a burning question with a man with a family.—l am, etc., Ratepayer.
