FOOTBALL
NOTES
Owing to some misunderstanding Glorit did not muster a full team to play Waimau'ku here on Saturday, last, and Waimauku, who came in full force, won the game by default. Several Glorit players were waiting at different north stations to catch the midday train down, but were informed that no match would be played. By whose authority they received this incorrect information does not seem clear.
At a meeting of the Kaipara Rugby Union on Saturday night it was decided to continue a third ro.uud of fixtures in the local shield competition. The matches for Saturday next will be : Helensville A v. Glorit, at Helensville. This match will commence at 1 p.m. sharp, as Glorit players want to catch the 2.10 train north. Waimauku and Helensville B will play on the Showground at 2.30 sharp. Players will please note that if they are not on the ground at above - mentioned times the matches will start without them. As two matches have to be played on the same ground in the one afternoon, the first match will start punctually to time.

The K.R.U. secretary is trying to arrange matches with the fol-' lowing clubs: Grafton, College Rifles, Marist Bros., Grammar Old Boys, and Auckland B reps.
At the K.R.U. meeting a vote of thanks was accorded Mr and Mrs R. Baddiley and Mrs Wilson for supplying distinguishing letters for the jerseys of the rep. team which visited Whangarei, and for several other extra touches which added to the appearance of the team when it took the field. The large blue letters on each jersey were favourably remarked upon by Whangarei players and supporters.
The K.R.U. have decided to play the next Helensville-Wai-mauku match at Waimauku.
The position of the teams now is : Helensville A, won 7, lost 1 ; Waimauku, won 7, lost; 1; Glorit, won 3, lost 4; Helensville B, won 1, lost 6.
The Springboks suffered their first defeat at Christchurch on Saturday last, when' the Canterbury team won by 6 to 4 points. The ground was very wet. Great excitement prevailed among the thousands of spectators, as such a close contest was not generally expected. The visitors admitted that their opponents were too fast for them.
Commenting on the Hokianga rep. team which played Whangarei for the Harding shield, a writer in the Hokianga Times says: — Although we do not think that the team could have been much bettered this year, it was evident that a number of players were playing their last season's representative football. Next year's selector would do well to remember his scripture : v Verily, verily I say unto thee when thou wast young thou girdest thyself and walkest whither thou wouldst, but when thou shalt be old thou shalt stretch forth thine hands and another shalt gird thee and carry thee whither thou wouldst not." Kaipara selectors could also make a note.
