HELENSVILLE DISTRICT SOLDIERS' MEMORIAL

NAMES WANTED

The work of the sculptor (CapC Feldon) of the memorial to be erected to fallen soldiers in the Helensville Domain Grounds is being seriously retarded just now owing to Severn lof the next-of-kin not having f(>rw.r<rripd names a.n<i particulars of deceased soldiers to the local committee. The early finish of the memorial is assured when a complete list of names for engraving on the stone is secured, and those who have so far omitted to send in the names of relatives or friends who fell in the Great War are urged to do so AT ONCE. It would be a lamentable thing if the name of, any soldier who made the great sacrifice was left off the scroll of honour simply because a relative or friend who should idoWo failed to1 inform the committee?

A gentleman who travelled a portion of the island recently informs us that he noticed soldiers' monuments had been completed in several country centres, and others were in course.of erection. In isolated cases " utility" me-, morials—i.e., buildings erected or inscriptions posted up in public places—had been established, but he was satisfied that Helensville had taken a proper and dignified step in erecting a monument to v perpetuate the memory of the brave boys who died to save their country.
