FORMATION OF COMPANY.

The following report on the formation of the Kaipaaa Dairy Co. will prove of interest at the present time-.—The first meeting held in Helensville in connection with the* formation of the company was on April 20,1911, in the Foresters' Hall, and there were present about eleven gentlemen representing different parts of the district. It was decided to form the company, and the following were appointed provisional directors : Messrs Joel Grant, Wayby ; G. Glover, Kaukapakapa ; James Ross, Streamlands ; J.C. Kimmer, Helensville ; C. Thomson, Wayby; G. Ogle, Mangakura; J. Hudson, .Hoteo; with power to add. Mr A. J. Garry was appointed organiser, Mr C. Thomson chairman of directors, and Mr J. C. Rimmer secretary. At a subsequent meeting held on June 2 the directors submitted a list of dairy farmers who had promised to take up shares, and the total being 1000, the required number, it was decided to go to allotment. A start was made in building the factory ■'on June, 19, 1911. The bore for water on the property proving a failure, it was decided to go out about l\i mile to Mr Jno. Hand's property and pipe water to the factory, which gave a sufficient supply for all purposes. Mr Garry was appointed manager of the works, and by September 4 sufficient headway had been made to receive cream, the first consignment arriving on that date. The supply gradually increased, and by the end of Sept, there were 70 suppliers. A further increase of suppliers brought the grand total to 113 in the mcnth of January. This was far in excess of the number anticipated by the directors. The best month of the season was January. The number of . lbs of cream received was 120,764, which contained 43,9171b of butter-fat, and for which the suppliers received £1921 ss. For the shipping season the average grade obtained was 91, which-was considered highly satisfactory, as this was equal to many factories receiving'fresh cream daily. G-ood prices for butter were obtained throughout the year, 50 tons being sold outright under contract at the beginning of the season, and the remainder monthly. A large [ quantity of this butter was sent to Vancouver and London, the " Poplar" brand opening up satisfactorily on these markets.
