CONCERT PATRONAGE

[to the editor.]

SIR, —As a visitor to your town, or rather your Springs, may I be permitted to comment on the way local people turn out to concerts here. In common with some dozen others from the Springs, I journeyed in last Friday night to hear Fenwick Newell Company. As we were a little late, we h,ad visions of having to push into a seat near the door. Imagine our surprise on arrival to find only about fifty people present! It seems rather a shame when such a company (which, by the way, would be considered a treat in Auckland) comes to a town this size to be shown so little appreciation. It is apt to give strangers rather a bad opinion of the place. I have seen better " houses" for shows of less merit in smaller towns. 1 notice "The Diggers" are showing here on Saturday night, and will be interested to note what sort of a house they receive, —I am, etc., Hot Springs Visitor.
