An unique occurrence has been reported from the north of South Australia. Three hundred sheep were discovered to be on fire, and it was found that the smoke was arising from brands which were recently made. The fire could not be put out and the wool had to be shorn off. The sheep owners were mystified for some time until it was ascertained the paint from which this lot were branded had come out of a phosphate tin. When the sun became warm it affected the phosphate and caused the wool to burn.
