DOMAIN GREENS

OFFICIAL OPENING.

The weather was perfect for the official opening of the Domain Greens on Saturday afternoon ''-■ last, and a large number of residents, settlers and visitors were present. The grounds looked particularly attractive, and it is safe to say that, the Domain has never looked better than at the present time. In declaring the greens open for ' play, Mr C. West apologised for the absence of Mr Jas Stewart, Chairman of the Domain Board, and made a few appropriate remarks avent the occasion. The speaker complimented Mt Snow (caretaker) on the fin^^r state of the greens. He then^v called upon Mrs Jas Stewart to roll up the jack on the bowling green, and declares the greens open amid applause. During the afternoon devotees of the various £. games —bowling, tennis and '$r croquet —spent a pleasant time, * the tennis courts particularly being fully occupied all the afternoon. Afternoon tea was a most appreciated item, and was dispensed with the assistance ot a number of Parakai and Htlensville ladies.

On Tuesday last Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Public Works, paid a visit to th» Domain, in company of members of the Board. The Minister, made a thorough inspection of the grounds, and complimented the caretaker on their excellent appearance, stating that during all the visits he had made up this way he had never seen the place in better condition. Mr Coates stated that the amount necessary for the construction of .the ladies' swimming bath was already on the Estimates, and assured the Board that he would use his best endeavours to procure an additional sum for new bores the Board contemplate putting down.
