HELENSVILLE TENNIS CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING
About fifteen were present at the annual meeting held on Friday evening last. Mr M. Matheson presided.
The secretary (Mr W. E. Barnard) submitted a detailed report on last season's operations. The club was handicapped last season through only having one inferior court for playing on, and this affected the membership to some extent. During the winter one court has been tarred, and put into proper playing order, ,^cd a second court is in process *J%&iog completed. In a short J^atle both courts will .be avail*role, and players will always be assured of a game. The club had 23 financial members last season. The financial position was also
presented. The club has had a good deal of expense in connection with asphalting the courts, but the balance sheet as submitted was deemed satisfactory. Both report and balance sheet were adopted. The following officers for the ensuing year were elected: — President, Mr Jas. Stewart; vicepresidents Messrs D. Stewart, C. West and Dr Meinhold ; secretary Mr E. Eames ; treasurer, Mr O'Neil ; auditor, Mr A.R. Stone ; committee, Mesdames Eames, Sewell, Miss Coutts, Messrs Allen, Barnard, Claridge and Matheson. The appointment of a club captain was deferred. A long discussion took place over the quesiien of subscriptions. After several motions and amendments <had been proposed and rejected, the following scale of subscriptions was decided upon : Gentlemen 255, ladies 15s ; players under 18 years of age on January Ist, 1921: Gentlemen 15s, ladies 10s. It was cided to cut out the rule adopted last year that players under 16 years pay a subscription of ss.*
It was decided to adopt and enforce a by-law to the effect that no player be allowed on the courts in other than regulation shoes.
The secretary was instructed to procure a small notice board. The matter of afternoon tea arrangements was left over for the time being.
The opening day was postponed until both courts are ready for use ; one court however can be played on in the meantime, MrsD. Stewart has given a trophy to be competed for by the lady beginners. Mrs Airey has also promised, a trophy for the runner up. These trophies are given with the idea of encourag- * ing the new players. The thanks of the club are tendered to these ladies for their donations.
